A native of Montreal, Canada, Marc Andre Roy holds his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University. He has toured internationally with Cirque du Soleil for seven of those years, and now serves as Lighting Director on their acclaimed production, Quidam.
A professionally trained and active photographer, Marc Andre loves experiencing life behind a lens., and has recently branched into underwater photography as a complement to his passion for scuba diving and the fascinating realm of the ocean. His understanding of the world is closely tied to his appreciation of
"Shadows & Lights" is a project that was born in third-basement darkroom in 2002, as part of Marc Andre's final project before graduation from Fine Arts school. The interplay between light and its absence are an inspirational motif of both his photography and theatre lighting work, for without these antipodes, the visual world would not exist. He carries this theme into his work to this day.
Even as the emphasis in recent years has been on his lighting career, this focus has prompted new directions for his photography, which is evolving into the "Mean Monkey Studio." This new project encompasses not only his own portfolio, but collaborations with other artists, scientists, and intellectuals for the purpose of sharing and broadcasting ways of visualizing and understanding our world.
